A Fever Profile is a comprehensive diagnostic evaluation used to determine the cause of persistent fever. It includes various tests to identify potential infections, inflammatory conditions, or other underlying health issues. The profile often starts with a Complete Blood Count (CBC) to assess overall blood health and detect any abnormalities. Blood cultures may be conducted to identify bacterial or fungal infections in the bloodstream, while urine cultures help diagnose urinary tract infections. Rapid Diagnostic Tests (RDTs) might be included to quickly identify common pathogens such as those causing malaria, typhoid fever, or dengue. Serological tests are used to detect specific antibodies or antigens related to various infections. Imaging studies, like a chest X-ray, may be performed to check for conditions such as pneumonia. Additional tests, such as Thyroid Function Tests, C-Reactive Protein (CRP) levels, and Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate (ESR), help evaluate thyroid function, inflammation, and general health status. In regions where malaria is prevalent, a malaria smear or rapid test might be used to detect parasitic infections. For cases where dengue fever is suspected, Dengue NS1 Antigen or Dengue Serology tests are performed to confirm the infection. Each component of the Fever Profile is designed to provide a comprehensive view of the patient's health, aiding in accurate diagnosis and effective treatment planning.
